We were so excited to go on holiday that we just abandoned social media (as one should!) But here’s the last instalment of how we fitted all our camping goods into our 1m + deep caddy drawer to avoid the rattling on SA’s inevitable dirt roads! The polystyrene foam was upcycled from an online order and all off cuts went into an eco brick! The thing with first iteration van renovations is that they don’t have to be fuckfancy. Good song recommendation IG! A gift to our future selves is definitely what building this feels like. It’s hard to navigate - so many tiny decisions and factors to consider - but doing it together in our little workshop, when we can clearly remember how it was just a dream we gave voice to in the mountains a few years back, well it’s just the living best. Especially when the kitties come to join the action 🐈🐈‍⬛. We’ve given up many other life paths and paces of “success” in favour of this one. And because of it our lives appeared stuck for the longest time, but we knew what we were working towards and now that it’s becoming a tangible reality is a feeling like no other. For a myriad wild life reasons we had only 1 month, instead of 6 to get our van ready for its first adventure voyage - a road trip from Cape Town to Kruger! Family games nights need large coffee tables. This client wanted one with deep drawers all round for boardgames and an epic collection of cds (remember when we still listened to an artist or musician’s full album and had to access their music by supporting them with album sales?! ) They liked the wrought iron look so we designed a coffee table that mimics that style in all wood. While the initial order of trays for South Yeasters Bakery in Hout Bay was made from olive wood, this batch of trays is from oak board offcuts because at the time of manufacture olive wood was not available in offcuts.
